O God, break the teeth in their mouths! Smash the jawbones of the lions, O Lord!

I broke the fangs ¹  of the wicked, and made him drop ²  his prey from his teeth.

For a nation ¹  has invaded ²  our ³  land. There are so many of them they are too numerous to count. ⁴  Their teeth are like those ⁵  of a lion; they tear apart their prey like a lioness. ⁶ 

He sucks the poison ¹  of serpents; ²  the fangs ³  of a viper ⁴  kill him.

There is a generation whose teeth are like ¹  swords ²  and whose molars ³  are like knives to devour ⁴  the poor from the earth and the needy from among the human race.

Thus the poor have hope, and iniquity ¹  shuts its mouth. ² 

They will be starved by famine, eaten by plague, and bitterly stung; ¹  I will send the teeth of wild animals against them, along with the poison of creatures that crawl in the dust.

We escaped with our lives, ¹  like a bird from a hunter’s snare. The snare broke, and we escaped.

Syria from the east, and the Philistines from the west, they gobbled up Israelite territory. ¹  Despite all this, his anger does not subside, and his hand is ready to strike again. ²
