For they will quickly dry up like grass, and wither away like plants. ¹ 

foreigners lose their courage; ¹  they shake with fear ²  as they leave ³  their strongholds. ⁴ 

For the sun rises with its heat and dries up the meadow; the petal of the flower falls off and its beauty is lost forever. ¹  So also the rich person in the midst of his pursuits will wither away.

that is, ¹  into ²  an inheritance imperishable, undefiled, and unfading. It is reserved in heaven for you,

Foreigners lose their courage; ¹  they shake with fear ²  as they leave ³  their strongholds. ⁴ 

The grass dries up, the flowers wither, but the decree of our God is forever reliable.” ¹ 

We are all like one who is unclean, all our so-called righteous acts are like a menstrual rag in your sight. ¹  We all wither like a leaf; our sins carry us away like the wind.

The grass dries up, the flowers wither, when the wind sent by the Lord ¹  blows on them. Surely humanity ²  is like grass.

Then ¹  when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that never fades away.

“At that time ¹  Jacob’s splendor will be greatly diminished, ²  and he will become skin and bones. ³ 

The earth ¹  dries up ²  and withers, the world shrivels up and withers; the prominent people of the earth ³  fade away.

He shouts a battle cry ¹  against the sea ²  and makes it dry up; ³  he makes all the rivers ⁴  run dry. Bashan and Carmel wither; ⁵  the blossom of Lebanon withers.

and like a robe you will fold them up and like a garment ¹  they will be changed, but you are the same and your years will never run out.” ² 

He is like ¹  a tree planted by flowing streams; ²  it ³  yields ⁴  its fruit at the proper time, ⁵  and its leaves never fall off. ⁶  He succeeds in everything he attempts. ⁷ 

I will take away their harvests, ¹  says the Lord. There will be no grapes on their vines. There will be no figs on their fig trees. Even the leaves on their trees will wither. The crops that I gave them will be taken away.’” ² 

Like a dream he flies away, never again to be found, ¹  and like a vision of the night he is put to flight.

I am fading away like a shadow at the end of the day; ¹  I am shaken off like a locust.

But the rich person’s pride should be in his humiliation, because he will pass away like a wildflower in the meadow. ¹ 

For my life nears its end in pain; my years draw to a close as I groan. ¹  My strength fails me because of ²  my sin, and my bones become brittle. ³ 

They will perish, but you will endure. ¹  They will wear out like a garment; like clothes you will remove them and they will disappear. ²
