For I have given you an example ¹  – you should do just as I have done for you.

Be imitators of me, ¹  brothers and sisters, ²  and watch carefully those who are living this way, just as you have us as an example.

Let no one look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in your speech, conduct, love, faithfulness, ¹  and purity.

For to this you were called, since Christ also suffered for you, leaving an example for you to follow in his steps.

It was not because we do not have that right, but to give ourselves as an example for you to imitate. ¹ 

As an example of suffering and patience, brothers and sisters, ¹  take the prophets who spoke in the Lord’s name.

and if he turned to ashes the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah when he condemned them to destruction, ¹  having appointed ²  them to serve as an example ³  to future generations of the ungodly, ⁴ 

Be imitators of me, just as I also am of Christ.

As a result you became an example ¹  to all the believers in Macedonia and in Achaia.

For you know yourselves how you must imitate us, because we did not behave without discipline ¹  among you,

showing yourself to be an example of good works in every way. In your teaching show integrity, dignity,

So also ¹  Sodom and Gomorrah and the neighboring towns, ²  since they indulged in sexual immorality and pursued unnatural desire ³  in a way similar to ⁴  these angels, ⁵  are now displayed as an example by suffering the punishment of eternal fire.

Brothers and sisters, ¹  I offer an example from everyday life: ²  When a covenant ³  has been ratified, ⁴  even though it is only a human contract, no one can set it aside or add anything to it.

I encourage you, then, be imitators of me.

But here is why I was treated with mercy: so that ¹  in me as the worst, ²  Christ Jesus could demonstrate his utmost patience, as an example for those who are going to believe in him for eternal life.

These things happened to them as examples and were written for our instruction, on whom the ends of the ages have come.

Thus we must make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one may fall by following the same pattern of disobedience.

This is what I also observed about wisdom on earth, ¹  and it is a great burden ²  to me:

So ¹  I again considered ²  another ³  futile thing on earth: ⁴ 

Therefore, be ¹  imitators of God as dearly loved children
