He had ¹  so many sheep ²  and cattle ³  and such a great household of servants that the Philistines became jealous ⁴  of him.

For I envied those who are proud, as I observed ¹  the prosperity ²  of the wicked.

I made it beautiful with its many branches; all the trees of Eden, in the garden of God, envied it.

His brothers were jealous ¹  of him, but his father kept in mind what Joseph said. ² 

In the camp they resented ¹  Moses, and Aaron, the Lord’s holy priest. ² 

When Rachel saw that she could not give Jacob children, she ¹  became jealous of her sister. She said to Jacob, “Give me children ²  or I’ll die!”

“Blessed are you who hunger ¹  now, for you will be satisfied. ²  “Blessed are you who weep now, for you will laugh. ³ 

O Lord who rules over all, ¹  how blessed are those who trust in you! ² 

How blessed are those who promote justice, and do what is right all the time!

“So now, children, ¹  listen to me; blessed are those who keep my ways.

“Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.

Blessed is anyone ¹  who takes no offense at me.”

“But your eyes are blessed ¹  because they see, and your ears because they hear.

Blessed is anyone ¹  who takes no offense at me.”

Blessed is that slave ¹  whom his master finds at work ²  when he returns.

If you understand ¹  these things, you will be blessed if you do them.

“Blessed ¹  are those whose lawless deeds are forgiven, and whose sins are covered;

blessed is the one ¹  against whom the Lord will never count ²  sin.” ³ 

Then I considered ¹  all the skillful work ²  that is done: Surely it is nothing more than ³  competition ⁴  between one person and another. ⁵  This also is profitless – like ⁶  chasing the wind.

Blessed is the one who reads the words of this ¹  prophecy aloud, ²  and blessed are ³  those who hear and obey ⁴  the things written in it, because the time is near! ⁵
