For it is impossible in the case of those who have once been enlightened, tasted the heavenly gift, become partakers of the Holy Spirit,

to turn back his life from the place of corruption, that he may be enlightened with the light of life.

But remember the former days when you endured a harsh conflict of suffering after you were enlightened.

– since the eyes of your ¹  heart have been enlightened ²  – so that you may know what is the hope of his calling, ³  what is the wealth of his glorious ⁴  inheritance in the saints,

For I can testify that they are zealous for God, ¹  but their zeal is not in line with the truth. ² 

His lightning bolts light up the world; the earth sees and trembles.

How you have advised the one without wisdom, and abundantly ¹  revealed your insight!

¹ I am telling the truth in Christ (I am not lying!), for my conscience assures me ²  in the Holy Spirit –

Then Jonathan said, “My father has caused trouble for the land. See how my eyes gleamed ¹  when I tasted just a little of this honey.

“Arise! Shine! For your light arrives! The splendor ¹  of the Lord shines on you!

But Jonathan had not heard about the oath his father had made the army take. He extended the end of his staff that was in his hand and dipped it in the honeycomb. When he ate it, ¹  his eyes gleamed. ² 

“But now briefly ¹  we have received mercy from the Lord our God, in that he has left us a remnant and has given us a secure position ²  in his holy place. Thus our God has enlightened our eyes ³  and has given us a little relief in our time of servitude.
