Then you will take delight in the Lord, ¹  and he will answer your prayers. ² 

Now those who belong to Christ ¹  have crucified the flesh ²  with its passions ³  and desires.

This saying ¹  is trustworthy: “If someone aspires to the office of overseer, ²  he desires a good work.”

My days have passed, my plans ¹  are shattered, even ²  the desires ³  of my heart.

Instead, put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh to arouse its desires. ¹ 

For the flesh has desires that are opposed to the Spirit, and the Spirit has desires ¹  that are opposed to the flesh, for these are in opposition to ²  each other, so that you cannot do what you want.

Do you want to really live? ¹  Would you love to live a long, happy life? ² 

But I say, live ¹  by the Spirit and you will not carry out the desires of the flesh. ² 

O Lord, do not let the wicked have their way! ¹  Do not allow their ²  plan to succeed when they attack! ³  (Selah)

Those who long to be rich, however, stumble into temptation and a trap and many senseless and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction.

The appetite ¹  of the wicked desires ²  evil; his neighbor is shown no favor ³  in his eyes.

since he wants ¹  all people ²  to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.

among whom ¹  all of us ²  also ³  formerly lived out our lives in the cravings of our flesh, indulging the desires of the flesh and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath ⁴  even as the rest… ⁵ 

I will select ¹  you; you will rule over all you desire to have and you will be king over Israel.

Dear friends, I urge you as foreigners and exiles to keep away from fleshly desires that do battle against the soul,

in that he spends the rest of his time ¹  on earth concerned about the will of God and not human desires.

For by speaking high-sounding but empty words ¹  they are able to entice, ²  with fleshly desires and with debauchery, ³  people ⁴  who have just escaped ⁵  from those who reside in error. ⁶ 

But he is unchangeable, ¹  and who can change ²  him? Whatever he ³  has desired, he does.

¹  No ²  one after drinking old wine wants the new, for he says, ‘The old is good enough.’” ³ 

Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its desires,
