All the leaders and people said to him, “Do not give in or agree to his demands.” ¹ 

He has destroyed ¹  what was against us, a certificate of indebtedness ²  expressed in decrees opposed to us. He has taken it away by nailing it to the cross.

The Lord always proves faithful and reliable ¹  to those who follow the demands of his covenant. ² 

¹  although we could have imposed our weight as apostles of Christ; instead we became ²  little children ³  among you. Like a nursing mother caring for her own children,

“If men fight and hit a pregnant woman and her child is born prematurely, ¹  but there is no serious injury, he will surely be punished in accordance with what the woman’s husband demands of him, and he will pay what the court decides. ² 

nor to seek glory from people, either from you or from others,

A king brings stability ¹  to a land ²  by justice, but one who exacts tribute ³  tears it down.

But Ahaz responded, “I don’t want to ask; I don’t want to put the Lord to a test.” ¹ 

י (Yod) Let a person ¹  sit alone in silence, when the Lord ²  is disciplining him. ³ 

And if anyone forces you to go one mile, ¹  go with him two.

All the law and the prophets depend ¹  on these two commandments.”

it is not from ¹  works, so that no one can boast. ² 

“Your father made us work too hard. ¹  Now if you lighten the demands he made and don’t make us work as hard, we will serve you.” ²

They are determined to be experts at doing evil; ¹  government officials and judges take bribes, ²  prominent men make demands, and they all do what is necessary to satisfy them. ³ 

Now Moses was eighty years old and Aaron was eighty-three years old when they spoke to Pharaoh.

In the wilderness they had an insatiable craving ¹  for meat; ²  they challenged God ³  in the desert.

Honest scales and balances ¹  are from the Lord; all the weights ²  in the bag are his handiwork.

Now ¹  Jesus ²  went home, and a crowd gathered so that they were not able to eat.

I am not trying to get ¹  praise for myself. ²  There is one who demands ³  it, and he also judges. ⁴
