Since considerable time had passed and the voyage was now dangerous ¹  because the fast ²  was already over, ³  Paul advised them, ⁴ 

Why too are we in danger every hour?

Jesus said to them, “Have you come with swords and clubs to arrest me like you would an outlaw? ¹ 

No lions will be there, no ferocious wild animals will be on it ¹  – they will not be found there. Those delivered from bondage will travel on it,

They were banished from the community ¹  – people ²  shouted at them like they would shout at thieves ³  –

It is dangerous ¹  to have zeal ²  without knowledge, and the one who acts hastily ³  makes poor choices. ⁴ 

adultery, greed, evil, deceit, debauchery, envy, slander, pride, and folly.

At that moment Jesus said to the crowd, “Have you come out with swords and clubs to arrest me like you would an outlaw? ¹  Day after day I sat teaching in the temple courts, yet ²  you did not arrest me.

Then ¹  Jesus said to the chief priests, the officers of the temple guard, ²  and the elders who had come out to get him, “Have you come out with swords and clubs like you would against an outlaw? ³ 

These men are ¹  dangerous reefs ²  at your love feasts, ³  feasting without reverence, ⁴  feeding only themselves. ⁵  They are ⁶  waterless ⁷  clouds, carried along by the winds; autumn trees without fruit ⁸  – twice dead, ⁹  uprooted;

“But if he strikes him out of hatred or throws something at him intentionally ¹  so that he dies,

He gives me the agility of a deer; ¹  he enables me to negotiate the rugged terrain. ² 

The one who puts up security for a stranger ¹  will surely have trouble, ²  but whoever avoids ³  shaking hands ⁴  will be secure.

It is a snare ¹  for a person ²  to rashly cry, ³  “Holy!” and only afterward to consider ⁴  what he has vowed. ⁵ 

Thorns and snares ¹  are in the path of the perverse, but the one who guards himself keeps far from them.

The sluggard ¹  says, “There is a lion in the road! A lion in the streets!” ² 

Like ¹  a roaring lion or a roving bear, ²  so is a wicked ruler over a poor people. ³ 

One who quarries stones may be injured by them; one who splits logs may be endangered by them.

When ¹  they had brought them ²  before the magistrates, they said, “These men are throwing our city into confusion. ³  They are ⁴  Jews

or “Who will descend into the abyss?” ¹  (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead).
