Jesus replied, ¹  “I tell you, Peter, the rooster will not crow ²  today until you have denied ³  three times that you know me.”

Jesus answered, “Will you lay down your life for me? ¹  I tell you the solemn truth, ²  the rooster will not crow until you have denied me three times!

every kind of crow, ¹ 

The righteous see their destruction ¹  and rejoice; the innocent mock them scornfully, ²  saying,

They spew out threats ¹  and speak defiantly; all the evildoers boast. ² 

I am like an owl ¹  in the wilderness; I am like a screech owl ²  among the ruins. ³ 

Then Peter denied it again, and immediately a rooster crowed. ¹ 

If ¹  I have rejoiced over the misfortune of my enemy ²  or exulted ³  because calamity ⁴  found him –

Do not rejoice when your enemy falls, ¹  and when he stumbles do not let your heart rejoice,

The time has come; the day has struck! The customer should not rejoice, nor the seller mourn; for divine wrath ¹  comes against their whole crowd.

My enemies, ¹  do not gloat ²  over me! Though I have fallen, I will get up. Though I sit in darkness, the Lord will be my light. ³ 

Jesus said to him, “I tell you the truth, ¹  on this night, before the rooster crows, you will deny me three times.”

Then Peter remembered what Jesus had said: “Before the rooster crows, you will deny me three times.” And he went outside and wept bitterly. ¹ 

Jesus said to him, “I tell you the truth, ¹  today – this very night – before a rooster crows twice, you will deny me three times.”

do not boast over the branches. But if you boast, remember that you do not support the root, but the root supports you.

Then ¹  the Lord turned and looked straight at Peter, and Peter remembered the word of the Lord, ²  how he had said to him, “Before a rooster crows today, you will deny me three times.”
