Thus ¹  his anger burns against me, and he considers me among his enemies. ² 

He counts the number of the stars; he names all of them.

¹ Yet God ²  finds occasions ³  with me; he regards me as his enemy!

Circumcision is nothing and uncircumcision is nothing. Instead, keeping God’s commandments is what counts.

For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision carries any weight – the only thing that matters is faith working through love. ¹ 

For ¹  neither circumcision nor uncircumcision counts for ²  anything; the only thing that matters is a new creation! ³ 

It regards iron as straw and bronze as rotten wood.

Your mind will recall the terror you experienced, ¹  and you will ask yourselves, ²  “Where is the scribe? Where is the one who weighs the money? Where is the one who counts the towers?” ³ 

He pronounces this blessing on himself while he is alive: “May men praise you, for you have done well!”

I, the Lord, say that shepherds will once again count their sheep as they pass into the fold. ¹  They will do this in all the towns in the southern hill country, the western foothills, the southern hill country, the territory of Benjamin, the villages surrounding Jerusalem, and the towns of Judah.’ ² 

How blessed is the one ¹  whose wrongdoing the Lord does not punish, ²  in whose spirit there is no deceit. ³ 

I will make you pass under ¹  the shepherd’s staff, ²  and I will bring you into the bond of the covenant.

Jesus ¹  answered them, “You are deceived, ²  because you don’t know the scriptures or the power of God.

So even David himself speaks regarding the blessedness of the man to whom God credits righteousness apart from works:

So neither the one who plants counts for anything, ¹  nor the one who waters, but God who causes the growth.

For this finds God’s favor, ¹  if because of conscience toward God ²  someone endures hardships in suffering unjustly.

I will walk in ¹  the way of integrity. When will you come to me? I will conduct my business with integrity in the midst of my palace. ² 

Even now the ax is laid at ¹  the root of the trees, and every tree that does not produce good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire.

The Spirit is the one who gives life; human nature is of no help! ¹  The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and are life. ² 

Who is wise and understanding among you? By his good conduct he should show his works done in the gentleness that wisdom brings. ¹
