I was very angry when I heard their outcry and these complaints. ¹ 

“How long must I bear ¹  with this evil congregation ²  that murmurs against me? I have heard the complaints of the Israelites that they murmured against me.

I pour out my lament before him; I tell him about ¹  my troubles.

Then Moses said to Aaron, “Tell the whole community ¹  of the Israelites, ‘Come ²  before the Lord, because he has heard your murmurings.’”

Who has woe? ¹  Who has sorrow? Who has contentions? Who has complaints? Who has wounds without cause? Who has dullness ²  of the eyes?

Moses said, “You will know this ¹  when the Lord gives you ²  meat to eat in the evening and bread in the morning to satisfy you, because the Lord has heard your murmurings that you are murmuring against him. As for us, what are we? ³  Your murmurings are not against us, ⁴  but against the Lord.”

and in the morning you will see ¹  the glory of the Lord, because he has heard ²  your murmurings against the Lord. As for us, what are we, ³  that you should murmur against us?”

“I have heard the murmurings of the Israelites. Tell them, ‘During the evening ¹  you will eat meat, ²  and in the morning you will be satisfied ³  with bread, so that you may know ⁴  that I am the Lord your God.’” ⁵ 

And the staff of the man whom I choose will blossom; so I will rid myself of the complaints of the Israelites, which they murmur against you.”

The Lord said to Moses, “Bring Aaron’s staff back before the testimony to be preserved for a sign to the rebels, so that you may bring their murmurings to an end ¹  before me, that they will not die.” ² 

When he arrived, the Jews who had come down from Jerusalem stood around him, ¹  bringing many serious ²  charges that they were not able to prove. ³ 

Whoever hides her hides the wind ¹  or grasps ²  oil with his right hand. ³ 

But if you want anything in addition, ¹  it will have to be settled ²  in a legal assembly. ³ 

But how can I alone bear up under the burden of your hardship and strife?

If I say, ¹  ‘I will ²  forget my complaint, I will change my expression ³  and be cheerful,’ ⁴ 

“If I have disregarded the right of my male servants or my female servants when they disputed ¹  with me,

Why do you contend against him, that he does not answer all a person’s ¹  words?

Do not accept an accusation against an elder unless it can be confirmed by two or three witnesses. ¹ 

On the next day ¹  Moses sat to judge ²  the people, and the people stood around Moses from morning until evening.

Listen to what the Lord says: “Get up! Defend yourself ¹  before the mountains! ²  Present your case before the hills!” ³
