Although they claimed ¹  to be wise, they became fools

The Jewish leaders ¹  replied, ²  “We have a law, ³  and according to our law he ought to die, because he claimed to be the Son of God!” ⁴ 

The battle there was spread out over the whole area, and the forest consumed more soldiers than the sword devoured that day.

Rather they had several points of disagreement ¹  with him about their own religion ²  and about a man named Jesus ³  who was dead, whom Paul claimed ⁴  to be alive.

The group of those who believed were of one heart and mind, ¹  and no one said that any of his possessions was his own, but everything was held in common. ² 

So now, let the power of my Lord ¹  be great, just as you have said,

He brought them to the border of his holy land, to this mountainous land ¹  which his right hand ²  acquired.

They set up their disgusting idols in the temple which I have claimed for my own ¹  and defiled it.

Others said, “He is Elijah.” Others said, “He is a prophet, like one of the prophets from the past.”

So he returned to Judah and said, “I couldn’t find her. Moreover, the men of the place said, ‘There has been no cult prostitute here.’”

So Moses brought out all the staffs from before the Lord to all the Israelites. They looked at them, ¹  and each man took his staff.

Then all the peoples of the earth will see that you belong to the Lord, ¹  and they will respect you.

those prophets of Israel who would prophesy about Jerusalem ¹  and would see visions of peace for it, when there was no peace,” declares the sovereign Lord.’

Seek good and not evil so you can live! Then the Lord, the God who commands armies, just might be with you, as you claim he is.

But to all who have received him – those who believe in his name ¹  – he has given the right to become God’s children

Now ¹  this was ²  John’s ³  testimony ⁴  when the Jewish leaders ⁵  sent ⁶  priests and Levites from Jerusalem ⁷  to ask him, “Who are you?” ⁸ 

So they said to him, “Who are you?” Jesus replied, ¹  “What I have told you from the beginning.

Then Jesus said to those Judeans ¹  who had believed him, “If you continue to follow my teaching, ²  you are really ³  my disciples

Some people said, ¹  “This is the man!” ²  while others said, “No, but he looks like him.” ³  The man himself ⁴  kept insisting, “I am the one!” ⁵ 

Then the chief priests of the Jews ¹  said to Pilate, “Do not write, ‘The king of the Jews,’ but rather, ‘This man said, I am king of the Jews.’”
