Peter said to him, “Lord, why can’t I follow you now? I will lay down my life for you!” ¹ 

For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor heavenly rulers, ¹  nor things that are present, nor things to come, nor powers,

Though you have eyes, don’t you see? And though you have ears, can’t you hear? ¹  Don’t you remember?

Why don’t you understand what I am saying? It is because you cannot accept ¹  my teaching. ² 

Or when they hand the scroll to one who can’t read ¹  and say, “Read this,” he says, “I can’t read.” ² 

David replied, “What have I done now? Can’t I say anything?” ¹ 

No harm will overtake ¹  you; no illness ²  will come near your home. ³ 

They have mouths, but cannot speak, eyes, but cannot see,

ears, but cannot hear, noses, but cannot smell,

They have mouths, but cannot speak, eyes, but cannot see,

Whoever hides her hides the wind ¹  or grasps ²  oil with his right hand. ³ 

Who forms a god and casts an idol that will prove worthless? ¹ 

But the men ¹  who had gone up with him said, “We are not able to go up against these people, because they are stronger than we are!”

“He saved others, but he cannot save himself! He is the king of Israel! If he comes down ¹  now from the cross, we will believe in him!

In the same way even the chief priests – together with the experts in the law ¹  – were mocking him among themselves: ²  “He saved others, but he cannot save himself!

But Lot said to them, “No, please, Lord! ¹ 

Surging waters cannot quench love; floodwaters ¹  cannot overflow it. If someone were to offer all his possessions ²  to buy love, ³  the offer ⁴  would be utterly despised. ⁵ 

I am not able to bear this entire people alone, ¹  because it ²  is too heavy for me!

I also said to you at that time, “I am no longer able to sustain you by myself.

to ¹  those who wait ²  for death that ³  does not come, and search for it ⁴  more than for hidden treasures,
