“Speak to the Israelites and tell them, ‘If any man’s wife goes astray and behaves unfaithfully toward him,

for he stretches out his hand against God, ¹  and vaunts himself ²  against the Almighty,

The likes of it is not on earth, a creature ¹  without fear.

The righteous person ¹  behaves in integrity; ²  blessed are his children after him. ³ 

A proud ¹  and arrogant ²  person, whose name is “Scoffer,” ³  acts ⁴  with overbearing pride. ⁵ 

The one who conducts himself ¹  in integrity ²  will live ³  securely, but the one who behaves perversely ⁴  will be found out.

A servant who acts wisely ¹  will rule over ²  an heir ³  who behaves shamefully, ⁴  and will share the inheritance along with the relatives. ⁵ 

And whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.

For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but ¹  the one who humbles ²  himself will be exalted.”

For you put up with ¹  it if someone makes slaves of you, if someone exploits you, if someone takes advantage of you, if someone behaves arrogantly ²  toward you, if someone strikes you in the face.
