and he begins to beat his fellow slaves and to eat and drink with drunkards,

But if ¹  that ²  slave should say to himself, ³  ‘My master is delayed ⁴  in returning,’ and he begins to beat ⁵  the other ⁶  slaves, both men and women, ⁷  and to eat, drink, and get drunk,

For it is time for judgment to begin, starting with the house ¹  of God. And if it starts with us, what will be the fate ²  of those who are disobedient to the gospel of God?

Although its roots may grow old ¹  in the ground and its stump begins to die ²  in the soil, ³ 

Sound the ram’s horn on the day of the new moon, ¹  and on the day of the full moon when our festival begins. ² 

The first to state his case ¹  seems ²  right, until his opponent ³  begins to ⁴  cross-examine him. ⁵

Did the word of God begin with you, ¹  or did it come to you alone?
