When you argue a case ¹  with your neighbor, do not reveal the secret of another person, ² 

But I wish to speak ¹  to the Almighty, ²  and I desire to argue ³  my case ⁴  with God.

Does he argue ¹  with useless ²  talk, with words that have no value in them?

Then the Pharisees ¹  came and began to argue with Jesus, asking for ²  a sign from heaven ³  to test him.

Remind me of what happened! Let’s debate! You, prove to me that you are right! ¹ 

“How much less, ¹  then, can I answer him ²  and choose my words ³  to argue ⁴  with ⁵  him! ⁶ 

Will you show him partiality? ¹  Will you argue the case ²  for God?

Even if he slays me, I will hope in him; ¹  I will surely ²  defend ³  my ways to his face!

Then the Jews who were hostile to Jesus ¹  began to argue with one another, ²  “How can this man ³  give us his flesh to eat?”

Who ¹  will contend with me? If anyone can, I will be silent and die. ² 

¹ Come, let’s consider your options,” ²  says the Lord. “Though your sins have stained you like the color red, you can become ³  white like snow; though they are as easy to see as the color scarlet, you can become ⁴  white like wool. ⁵ 

Whatever has happened was foreordained, ¹  and what happens to a person ²  was also foreknown. It is useless for him to argue with God about his fate because God is more powerful than he is. ³ 

For if by my lie the truth of God enhances ¹  his glory, why am I still actually being judged as a sinner?

How painful ¹  are honest words! But ²  what does your reproof ³  prove? ⁴ 

Fight for me ¹  and defend me! ²  Revive me with your word!

The Lord takes his position to judge; he stands up to pass sentence on his people. ¹ 

He addressed ¹  both Jews and Greeks in the synagogue ²  every Sabbath, attempting to persuade ³  them.

But some men from the Synagogue ¹  of the Freedmen (as it was called), ²  both Cyrenians and Alexandrians, as well as some from Cilicia and the province of Asia, ³  stood up and argued with Stephen.

Nor is there an arbiter ¹  between us, who ²  might lay ³  his hand on us both, ⁴ 

and ¹  he contends with God on behalf of man as a man ²  pleads ³  for his friend.
