The descendants of Judah were Er and Onan, but Er and Onan died in the land of Canaan.

She became pregnant ¹  and had a son. Judah named ²  him Er.

Judah acquired ¹  a wife for Er his firstborn; her name was Tamar.

But Er, Judah’s firstborn, was evil in the Lord’s sight, so the Lord killed him.

The sons of Judah: Er, Onan, and Shelah. These three were born to him by Bathshua, ¹  a Canaanite woman. Er, Judah’s firstborn, displeased the Lord, so the Lord killed him. ² 

The sons of Judah: Er, Onan, Shelah, Perez, and Zerah (but Er and Onan died in the land of Canaan). The sons of Perez were Hezron and Hamul.

The sons of Shelah son of Judah: Er the father of Lecah, Laadah the father of Mareshah, the clans of the linen workers at Beth-Ashbea,

who delight ¹  in doing ²  evil, ³  they rejoice in perverse evil; ⁴ 

“It’s worthless! It’s worthless!” ¹  says the buyer, ²  but when he goes on his way, he boasts. ³ 

The fear of the Lord is to hate ¹  evil; I hate arrogant pride ²  and the evil way and perverse utterances. ³ 

The one who builds his house by unjust gain is as good as dead. ¹  He does this so he can build his nest way up high and escape the clutches of disaster. ² 

You love evil more than good, lies more than speaking the truth. ¹  (Selah)

I will have nothing to do with a perverse person; ¹  I will not permit ²  evil.

The Lord will protect you from all harm; he will protect your life.

to deliver ¹  you from the way of the wicked, ²  from those ³  speaking perversity, ⁴ 

I almost ¹  came to complete ruin ²  in the midst of the whole congregation!” ³ 

he plots evil with perverse thoughts ¹  in his heart, he spreads contention ²  at all times.

by keeping ¹  you from the evil woman, ²  from the smooth tongue of ³  the loose woman. ⁴ 

The righteous do not encounter ¹  any harm, ²  but the wicked are filled with calamity. ³
