The second ¹ 

Now there were seven brothers. The first one married a woman ¹  and died without children.

Then God spoke to Noah and said,

For observing the festival is a requirement for Israel; ¹  it is an ordinance given by the God of Jacob.

Kings reign by means of me, and potentates ¹  decree ²  righteousness;

The magicians said ¹  to Pharaoh, “It is the finger ²  of God!” But Pharaoh’s heart remained hard, ³  and he did not listen to them, just as the Lord had predicted.

They asked him, ¹  “Teacher, Moses wrote for us that if a man’s brother dies leaving a wife but no children, that man ²  must marry ³  the widow and father children ⁴  for his brother. ⁵ 

Joshua and all Israel pretended to be defeated by them and they retreated along the way to the desert.

He will demand a tenth of your seed and of the produce of your vineyards and give it to his administrators ¹  and his servants.

David reigned over all Israel; he guaranteed justice for all his people. ¹ 

He leans against his house but it does not hold up, ¹  he takes hold ²  of it but it does not stand.

Many will stumble over the stone and the rock, ¹  and will fall and be seriously injured, and will be ensnared and captured.”

We hoped for good fortune, but nothing good has come of it. We hoped for a time of relief, but instead we experience terror. ¹ 

But when Pharaoh saw that there was relief, ¹  he hardened ²  his heart and did not listen to them, just as the Lord had predicted. ³ 

If a man has sexual intercourse with his aunt, he has exposed his uncle’s nakedness; they must bear responsibility for their sin, they will die childless.

If a man has sexual intercourse with ¹  his brother’s wife, it is indecency. He has exposed his brother’s nakedness; ²  they will be childless.

“After this, the Levites will go in ¹  to do the work ²  of the tent of meeting. So you must cleanse them ³  and offer them like a wave offering. ⁴ 

They did not neglect any detail of the king’s orders pertaining to the priests, Levites, and treasuries. ¹
