My child, do not go down ¹  their way, ²  withhold yourself ³  from their path; ⁴ 

My child, do not despise discipline from the Lord, ¹  and do not loathe ²  his rebuke.

When I was a son to my father, ¹  a tender only child ²  before my mother,

Listen, my child, ¹  and accept my words, so that ²  the years of your life will be many. ³ 

My child, ²  if you have made a pledge ³  for your neighbor, and ⁴  have become a guarantor ⁵  for a stranger, ⁶ 

Be wise, my son, ¹  and make my heart glad, so that I may answer ²  anyone who taunts me. ³ 

I answered, “Oh, Lord God, ¹  I really ²  do not know how to speak well enough for that, ³  for I am too young.” ⁴ 

“For the Lord disciplines the one he loves and chastises every son he accepts.” ¹

Be keenly aware that just as a parent disciplines his child, ¹  the Lord your God disciplines you.

The sword will make people childless outside, and terror will do so inside; they will destroy ¹  both the young man and the virgin, the infant and the gray-haired man.

Then Elkanah went back home to Ramah. But the boy was serving the Lord under the supervision of ¹  Eli the priest.

In fact, ¹  I hear a cry like that of a woman in labor, a cry of anguish like that of a woman giving birth to her first baby. It is the cry of Daughter Zion ²  gasping for breath, reaching out for help, ³  saying, “I am done in! ⁴  My life is ebbing away before these murderers!”

Then, gently taking the child by the hand, he said to her, “Talitha koum,” which means, “Little girl, I say to you, get up.”

She ¹  exclaimed with a loud voice, ²  “Blessed are you among women, ³  and blessed is the child ⁴  in your womb!

At that moment, ¹  she came up to them ²  and began to give thanks to God and to speak ³  about the child ⁴  to all who were waiting for the redemption of Jerusalem. ⁵ 

By faith, even though Sarah herself was barren and he was too old, ¹  he received the ability to procreate, ²  because he regarded the one who had given the promise to be trustworthy.

We said to my lord, ‘We have an aged father, and there is a young boy who was born when our father was old. ¹  The boy’s ²  brother is dead. He is the only one of his mother’s sons left, ³  and his father loves him.’

Elisha ¹  told Gehazi, “Tuck your robes into your belt, take my staff, ²  and go! Don’t stop to exchange greetings with anyone! ³  Place my staff on the child’s face.”
