I continued up the valley during the night, inspecting the wall. Then I turned back and came to the Valley Gate, and so returned.

For the music director; By David, a psalm. I relied completely ²  on the Lord, and he turned toward me and heard my cry for help.

Receiving sacrifices and offerings are not your primary concern. ¹  You make that quite clear to me! ²  You do not ask for burnt sacrifices and sin offerings.

Surely ¹  one sees ²  that even wise people die; ³  fools and spiritually insensitive people all pass away ⁴  and leave their wealth to others. ⁵ 

You allowed men to ride over our heads; we passed through fire and water, but you brought us out into a wide open place. ¹ 

when the anger of God flared up against them. He killed some of the strongest of them; he brought the young men of Israel to their knees.

So I decided ¹  to discern the benefit of ²  wisdom and knowledge over ³  foolish behavior and ideas; ⁴  however, I concluded ⁵  that even ⁶  this endeavor ⁷  is like ⁸  trying to chase the wind! ⁹ 

They will attack you but they will not be able to overcome you, for I will be with you to rescue you,” says the Lord.

Kill all her soldiers! ¹  Let them be slaughtered! ²  They are doomed, ³  for their day of reckoning ⁴  has come, the time for them to be punished.”

Hamath, Berothah, Sibraim, which is between the border of Damascus and the border of Hamath, as far as Hazer-hattikon, which is on the border of Hauran.

I heard, but I did not understand. So I said, “Sir, ¹  what will happen after these things?”

So ¹  they answered Jesus, ²  “We don’t know.” ³  Then he said to them, “Neither will I tell you ⁴  by what authority ⁵  I am doing these things.

And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached throughout the whole inhabited earth as a testimony to all the nations, ¹  and then the end will come.

“When ¹  the Son of Man comes in his glory and all the angels with him, then he will sit on his glorious throne.

When ¹  they had mocked him, they stripped him of the robe and put his own clothes back on him. Then ²  they led him away to crucify him.

For it does not enter his heart but his stomach, and then goes out into the sewer.” ¹  (This means all foods are clean.) ² 

So ¹  they answered Jesus, ²  “We don’t know.” ³  Then Jesus said to them, “Neither will I tell you ⁴  by what authority ⁵  I am doing these things.”

When they had finished mocking ¹  him, they stripped him of the purple cloak and put his own clothes back on him. Then ²  they led him away to crucify him. ³ 

After ¹  three days ²  they found him in the temple courts, ³  sitting among the teachers, ⁴  listening to them and asking them questions.

But when he came to his senses ¹  he said, ‘How many of my father’s hired workers have food ²  enough to spare, but here I am dying from hunger!
