He causes everyone to stop working, ¹  so that all people ²  may know ³  his work.

Whether it is for punishment ¹  for his land, or whether it is for mercy, he causes it to find its mark. ² 

But then one passes by, and suddenly they have disappeared! ¹  I looked for them, but they could not be found.

For he will rescue the needy ¹  when they cry out for help, and the oppressed ²  who have no defender.

So they proclaim that the Lord, my protector, is just and never unfair. ¹ 

My eyes grow tired as I wait for your promise to be fulfilled. ¹  I say, ²  “When will you comfort me?”

My child, ²  if you have made a pledge ³  for your neighbor, and ⁴  have become a guarantor ⁵  for a stranger, ⁶ 

The one who winks ¹  his ²  eye causes ³  trouble, and the one who speaks foolishness ⁴  will come to ruin.

The one who lacks wisdom ¹  strikes hands in pledge, ²  and puts up financial security ³  for his neighbor. ⁴ 

In the morning, at the earliest sign of daylight, the king got up and rushed to the lions’ den.

“Ask ¹  and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door ²  will be opened for you.

For everyone who asks ¹  receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.

In the wilderness ¹  John the baptizer ²  began preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins. ³ 

He ¹  went into all the region around the Jordan River, ²  preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins. ³ 

There was also an inscription ¹  over him, “This is the king of the Jews.”

So Simon Peter ¹  gestured to this disciple ²  to ask Jesus ³  who it was he was referring to. ⁴ 

who also sealed us and gave us the Spirit in our hearts as a down payment. ¹ 

But even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled only to those who are perishing,

Now faith is being sure of what we hope for, being convinced of what we do not see.

For this finds God’s favor, ¹  if because of conscience toward God ²  someone endures hardships in suffering unjustly.
