Elijah took the boy, brought him down from the upper room to the house, and handed him to his mother. Elijah then said, “See, your son is alive!”

The mother of the child said, “As certainly as the Lord lives and as you live, I will not leave you.” So Elisha ¹  got up and followed her back.

So he went down and dipped in the Jordan seven times, as the prophet had instructed. ¹  His skin became as smooth as a young child’s ²  and he was healed.

Now Samuel was ministering before the Lord. The boy was dressed in a linen ephod.

A foolish child ¹  is the ruin of his father, and a contentious wife ²  is like ³  a constant dripping. ⁴ 

Eat honey, ¹  my child, for it is good, and honey from the honeycomb is sweet to your taste.

Fear the Lord, my child, ¹  as well as the king, and do not associate ²  with rebels, ³ 

Before she goes into labor, she gives birth! Before her contractions begin, she delivers a boy!

The real mother ¹  spoke up to the king, for her motherly instincts were aroused. ²  She said, “My master, give her the living child! Whatever you do, don’t kill him!” ³  But the other woman said, “Neither one of us will have him! Let them cut him in two!”

My child, if sinners ¹  try to entice ²  you, do not consent! ³ 

My child, ²  if ³  you receive my words, and store up ⁴  my commands within you,

My child, ²  do not forget my teaching, but let your heart keep ³  my commandments,

My child, do not let them ¹  escape from your sight; safeguard sound wisdom and discretion. ² 

My child, pay attention to my words; listen attentively ¹  to my sayings.

A foolish child is a grief ¹  to his father, and bitterness to the mother who bore him. ² 

So ¹  the child’s ²  father ³  and mother were amazed ⁴  at what was said about him.

Now ¹  the dragon’s ²  tail swept away a third of the stars in heaven and hurled them to the earth. Then ³  the dragon stood before the woman who was about to give birth, so that he might devour her child as soon as it was born.

Manoah said, “Now, when your announcement comes true, ¹  how should the child be raised and what should he do?” ² 

Manoah’s wife ¹  gave birth to a son and named him Samson. ²  The child grew and the Lord empowered ³  him.

Hadad, ¹  who was only a small boy at the time, escaped with some of his father’s Edomite servants and headed for Egypt. ²
