The king shows favor ¹  to a wise ²  servant, but his wrath falls ³  on one who acts shamefully.

The one who is wise in heart ¹  is called ²  discerning, and kind speech ³  increases persuasiveness. ⁴ 

Making a fortune ¹  by a lying tongue is like ²  a vapor driven back and forth; ³  they seek death. ⁴ 

The rich rule over ¹  the poor, and the borrower is servant ²  to the lender.

Although ¹  a righteous person may fall seven times, he gets up again, but the wicked will be brought down ²  by calamity.

The one who says to the guilty, ¹  “You are innocent,” ²  peoples will curse him, and nations will denounce ³  him.

so is a person ¹  who deceives his neighbor, and says, “Was I not only joking?” ² 

Like charcoal is to burning coals, and wood to fire, so is a contentious person ¹  to kindle strife. ² 

In the transgression of an evil person there is a snare, ¹  but a righteous person can sing ²  and rejoice. ³ 

If a wise person ¹  goes to court ²  with a foolish person, there is no peace ³  whether he is angry or laughs. ⁴ 

A rod and reproof ¹  impart ²  wisdom, but a child who is unrestrained ³  brings shame ⁴  to his mother. ⁵ 

She considers ¹  a field and buys it; from her own income ²  she plants a vineyard.

Though the stillborn child ¹  came into the world ²  for no reason ³  and departed into darkness, though its name is shrouded in darkness, ⁴ 

One who quarries stones may be injured by them; one who splits logs may be endangered by them.

¹ They ²  attacked ³  Aiath, moved through Migron, depositing their supplies at Micmash.

“You have heard that it was said, ‘An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.’ ¹ 

But the things that come out of the mouth come from the heart, and these things defile a person.

At that time the disciples came to Jesus saying, “Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?”

If ¹  this matter is heard before the governor, ²  we will satisfy him ³  and keep you out of trouble.” ⁴ 

For what benefit is it for a person ¹  to gain the whole world, yet ²  forfeit his life?
