What does a man acquire from all his labor and from the anxiety that accompanies his toil on earth? ¹ 

the one who led chariots and horses to destruction, ¹  together with a mighty army. They fell down, ²  never to rise again; they were extinguished, put out like a burning wick:

you who practice ritual sex ¹  under the oaks and every green tree, who slaughter children near the streams under the rocky overhangs. ² 

They had human hands ¹  under their wings on their four sides. As for the faces and wings of the four of them,

Then I looked, ¹  and I saw one wheel ²  on the ground ³  beside each of the four beings.

Under the platform their wings were stretched out, each toward the other. Each of the beings also had two wings covering ¹  its body.

Each had four faces; each had four wings and the form of human hands under the wings.

Now the upper chambers were narrower, because the galleries took more space from them than from the lower and middle chambers of the building.

There was a row of masonry around each of the four courts, and places for boiling offerings were made under the rows all around.

Then all the color drained from the king’s face ¹  and he became alarmed. ²  The joints of his hips gave way, ³  and his knees began knocking together.

You threw me ¹  into the deep waters, ²  into the middle ³  of the sea; ⁴  the ocean current ⁵  engulfed ⁶  me; all the mighty waves ⁷  you sent ⁸  swept ⁹  over me.

Water engulfed me up to my neck; ¹  the deep ocean ²  surrounded me; seaweed ³  was wrapped around my head.

But when he saw the strong wind he became afraid. And starting to sink, he cried out, ¹  “Lord, save me!”

But Jesus called them and said, “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and those in high positions use their authority over them.

Jesus said to him, ¹  “Because I told you that I saw you under the fig tree, do you believe? You will see greater things than these.” ² 

“Their throats are open graves, ¹  they deceive with their tongues, the poison of asps is under their lips.” ² 

So Ebed Melech took the men with him and went to a room under the treasure room in the palace. ¹  He got some worn-out clothes and old rags ²  from there and let them down by ropes to Jeremiah in the cistern.

The Lord ¹  took him outside and said, “Gaze into the sky and count the stars – if you are able to count them!” Then he said to him, “So will your descendants be.”

Abraham ¹  then took some curds and milk, along with the calf that had been prepared, and placed the food ²  before them. They ate while ³  he was standing near them under a tree.

So they gave Jacob all the foreign gods that were in their possession ¹  and the rings that were in their ears. ²  Jacob buried them ³  under the oak ⁴  near Shechem
