King Rehoboam consulted with the older advisers who had served ¹  his father Solomon when he had been alive. He asked them, ²  “How do you advise me to answer these people?”

Shout out, daughter of Gallim! Pay attention, Laishah! Answer her, Anathoth! ¹ 

to show you true and reliable words, ¹  so that you may give accurate answers ²  to those who sent you?

But he did not answer her a word. Then ¹  his disciples came and begged him, ²  “Send her away, because she keeps on crying out after us.”

You answer our prayers by performing awesome acts of deliverance, O God, our savior. ¹  All the ends of the earth trust in you, ²  as well as those living across the wide seas. ³ 

O Lord, may you hear my prayer and be favorably disposed to me! ¹  O God, because of your great loyal love, answer me with your faithful deliverance! ² 

Then you will call out, and the Lord will respond; you will cry out, and he will reply, ‘Here I am.’ You must ¹  remove the burdensome yoke from among you and stop pointing fingers and speaking sinfully.

I will stand at my watch post; I will remain stationed on the city wall. ¹  I will keep watching, so I can see what he says to me and can know ²  how I should answer when he counters my argument. ³ 

Jesus ¹  answered them, “I will also ask you one question. If you answer me then I will also tell you by what authority I do these things.

Then he turned from those who were nearby to someone else and asked the same question, ¹  but they ²  gave him the same answer as before.

So these three men refused to answer ²  Job further, because he was righteous in his ³  own eyes.

And I have waited. ¹  But because they do not speak, because they stand there and answer no more,

Now in this, you are not right – I answer you, ¹  for God is greater than a human being. ² 

Why do you contend against him, that he does not answer all a person’s ¹  words?

Get ready for a difficult task ¹  like a man; I will question you and you will inform me!

Each of you should merely ask the prophet, ‘What answer did the Lord give you? Or what did the Lord say?’ ¹ 

But he did not answer even one accusation, so that the governor was quite amazed.
