nor to seek glory from people, either from you or from others,

In the thirty-ninth year of his reign, Asa developed a foot disease. ¹  Though his disease was severe, he did not seek the Lord, but only the doctors. ² 

Let none who rely on you be disgraced because of me, O sovereign Lord and king! ¹  Let none who seek you be ashamed because of me, O God of Israel!

¹ They will say to you, “Seek oracles at the pits used to conjure up underworld spirits, from the magicians who chirp and mutter incantations. ²  Should people not seek oracles from their gods, by asking the dead about the destiny of the living?” ³ 

Afterward, the Israelites will turn and seek the Lord their God and their Davidic king. ¹  Then they will submit to the Lord in fear and receive his blessings ²  in the future. ³ 

I can do nothing on my own initiative. ¹  Just as I hear, I judge, and my judgment is just, ²  because I do not seek my own will, but the will of the one who sent me. ³ 

Then Barnabas departed for Tarsus to look for Saul,

His sons must recompense ¹  the poor; his own hands ²  must return his wealth.

May his children ¹  roam around begging, asking for handouts as they leave their ruined home! ² 

With all my heart I seek you. Do not allow me to stray from your commands!

So on that day I will set out to destroy all the nations ¹  that come against Jerusalem.”

For all the nations of the world pursue ¹  these things, and your Father knows that you need them.

Then some of the residents of Jerusalem ¹  began to say, “Isn’t this the man ²  they are trying ³  to kill?

You will look for me ¹  but will not find me, and where I am you cannot come.”

For here we have no lasting city, but we seek the city that is to come.

Are you looking for great things for yourself? Do not look for such things. For I, the Lord, affirm ¹  that I am about to bring disaster on all humanity. ²  But I will allow you to escape with your life ³  wherever you go.”’”

Then Jesus ¹  asked them again, “Who are you looking for?” And they said, “Jesus the Nazarene.”

For Jews demand miraculous signs and Greeks ask for wisdom,

He has brought you near and all your brothers, the sons of Levi, with you. Do you now seek ¹  the priesthood also?

God looks down from heaven ¹  at the human race, ²  to see if there is anyone who is wise ³  and seeks God. ⁴
