When Jesus learned of this, ¹  he said, “You who have such little faith! ²  Why are you arguing ³  among yourselves about having no bread?

How could you not understand that I was not speaking to you about bread? But beware of the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees!”

Then they understood that he had not told them to be on guard against the yeast in bread, but against the teaching of the Pharisees and Sadducees.

You are to observe the Feast of Unleavened Bread; seven days ¹  you must eat bread made without yeast, as I commanded you, at the appointed time of the month of Abib, for at that time ²  you came out of Egypt. No one may appear before ³  me empty-handed.

Then King Zedekiah ordered that Jeremiah be committed to the courtyard of the guardhouse. He also ordered that a loaf of bread ¹  be given to him every day from the baker’s street until all the bread in the city was gone. So Jeremiah was kept ²  in the courtyard of the guardhouse.

“On the table of the presence ¹  they must spread a blue ²  cloth, and put on it the dishes, the pans, the bowls, and the pitchers for pouring, and the Bread of the Presence must be on it continually.

Jesus replied, ¹  “It is the one to whom I will give this piece of bread ²  after I have dipped it in the dish.” ³  Then he dipped the piece of bread in the dish ⁴  and gave it to Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son.

If his children increase – it is for the sword! ¹  His offspring never have enough to eat. ² 

The earth, from which food comes, is overturned below as though by fire; ¹ 

A generous person ¹  will be blessed, ²  for he gives some of his food ³  to the poor.

The one who suffers ¹  will soon be released; he will not die in prison, ²  he will not go hungry. ³ 

“Son of man, eat your bread with trembling, ¹  and drink your water with anxious shaking.

The officials of Succoth said, “You have not yet overpowered Zebah and Zalmunna. So why should we give ¹  bread to your army?” ² 

Solomon also made these items for God’s temple: the gold altar, the tables on which the Bread of the Presence ¹  was kept,

I was once young, now I am old. I have never seen a godly man abandoned, or his children ¹  forced to search for food. ² 

Yes, ¹  he struck a rock and water flowed out, streams gushed forth. But can he also give us food? Will he provide meat for his people?”

So he said to me, “All right then, I will substitute cow’s manure instead of human excrement. You will cook your food over it.”

He instructed them to take nothing for the journey except a staff ¹  – no bread, no bag, ²  no money in their belts –

Every day ¹  they continued to gather together by common consent in the temple courts, ²  breaking bread from ³  house to house, sharing their food with glad ⁴  and humble hearts, ⁵ 

When he saw that this pleased the Jews, ¹  he proceeded to arrest Peter too. (This took place during the feast of Unleavened Bread.) ²
