To the married I give this command – not I, but the Lord ¹  – a wife should not divorce a husband

But a married man is concerned about the things of the world, how to please his wife,

So now the sword will never depart from your house. For you have despised me by taking the wife of Uriah the Hittite as your own!’

If he came ¹  in by himself ²  he will go out by himself; if he had ³  a wife when he came in, then his wife will go out with him.

You must not take a woman in marriage and then marry her sister as a rival wife ¹  while she is still alive, ²  to have sexual intercourse with her.

Now I say to you that whoever divorces his wife, except for immorality, and marries another commits adultery.”

If a man ¹  commits adultery with his neighbor’s wife, ²  both the adulterer and the adulteress must be put to death.

and if jealous feelings ¹  come over him and he becomes suspicious ²  of his wife, when she is defiled; ³  or if jealous feelings come over him and he becomes suspicious of his wife, when she is not defiled –

Suppose a man marries a woman, has sexual relations with her, ¹  and then rejects ²  her,

Who can find ²  a wife ³  of noble character? ⁴  For her value ⁵  is far more than rubies.

“Do not get married and do not have children here in this land.

Now there were seven brothers. The first one married a woman ¹  and died without children.

If he takes another wife, ¹  he must not diminish the first one’s food, ²  her clothing, or her marital rights. ³ 

Deacons must be husbands of one wife ¹  and good managers of their children and their own households.

You must not expose the nakedness of your father’s brother; you must not approach his wife to have sexual intercourse with her. ¹  She is your aunt. ² 

A noble wife ¹  is the crown ²  of her husband, but the wife ³  who acts shamefully is like rottenness in his bones. ⁴ 

For Herod had arrested John, bound him, ¹  and put him in prison on account of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife,

(but if she does, let her remain unmarried, or be reconciled to her husband), and a husband should not divorce his wife.

They asked him, ¹  “Teacher, Moses wrote for us that if a man’s brother dies leaving a wife but no children, that man ²  must marry ³  the widow and father children ⁴  for his brother. ⁵ 

That is why ¹  a man leaves ²  his father and mother and unites with ³  his wife, and they become a new family. ⁴
