I call to you for you will answer me, O God. Listen to me! ¹  Hear what I say! ² 

By day the Lord decrees his loyal love, ¹  and by night he gives me a song, ²  a prayer ³  to the living God.

All those who behave wickedly ¹  do not understand ²  – those who devour my people as if they were eating bread, and do not call out to God.

So I turned my attention ¹  to the Lord God ²  to implore him by prayer and requests, with fasting, sackcloth, and ashes. ³ 

And a leper ¹  approached, and bowed low before him, saying, ²  “Lord, if ³  you are willing, you can make me clean.”

Stay awake and pray that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.”

Then ¹  Jesus ²  got up early in the morning when it was still very dark, departed, and went out to a deserted place, and there he spent time in prayer. ³ 

Going a little farther, he threw himself to the ground and prayed that if it were possible the hour would pass from him.

Stay awake and pray that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.”

She had lived as a widow since then for eighty-four years. ¹  She never left the temple, worshiping with fasting and prayer night and day. ² 

At that moment, ¹  she came up to them ²  and began to give thanks to God and to speak ³  about the child ⁴  to all who were waiting for the redemption of Jerusalem. ⁵ 

Now ¹  it was during this time that Jesus ²  went out to the mountain ³  to pray, and he spent all night ⁴  in prayer to God. ⁵ 

The man from whom the demons had gone out begged to go ¹  with him, but Jesus ²  sent him away, saying,

And in his anguish ¹  he prayed more earnestly, and his sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground.] ² 

When he had said these things, ¹  Jesus went out with his disciples across the Kidron Valley. ²  There was an orchard ³  there, and he and his disciples went into it.

Then he fell ¹  to his knees and cried out with a loud voice, “Lord, do not hold this sin against them!” ²  When ³  he had said this, he died. ⁴ 

When they had appointed elders ¹  for them in the various churches, ²  with prayer and fasting ³  they entrusted them to the protection ⁴  of the Lord in whom they had believed.

But any woman who prays or prophesies with her head uncovered disgraces her head, for it is one and the same thing as having a shaved head.

Love never ends. But if there are prophecies, they will be set aside; if there are tongues, they will cease; if there is knowledge, it will be set aside.

But the widow who is truly in need, and completely on her own, ¹  has set her hope on God and continues in her pleas and prayers night and day.
