before I depart, never to return, ¹  to the land of darkness and the deepest shadow, ² 

Have the gates of death been revealed to you? ¹  Have you seen the gates of deepest darkness? ² 

People lie to one another; ¹  they flatter and deceive. ² 

He brought them out of the utter darkness, ¹  and tore off their shackles.

Arrogant people do nothing but scoff at me. ¹  Yet I do not turn aside from your law.

to the one who remembered us when we were down, ¹  for his loyal love endures,

A man who commits adultery with a woman lacks wisdom, ¹  whoever does it destroys his own life. ² 

Listen, for I will speak excellent things, ¹  and my lips will utter ²  what is right.

The lips of the righteous know ¹  what is pleasing, ²  but the speech ³  of the wicked is perverse.

It is a snare ¹  for a person ²  to rashly cry, ³  “Holy!” and only afterward to consider ⁴  what he has vowed. ⁵ 

No, ¹  a wind too strong for that will come at my bidding. Yes, even now I, myself, am calling down judgment on them.’ ² 

And throw that worthless slave into the outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’

But Paul replied, ¹  “I have not lost my mind, most excellent Festus, ²  but am speaking ³  true and rational ⁴  words.

¹ I am telling the truth in Christ (I am not lying!), for my conscience assures me ²  in the Holy Spirit –

From the days of our fathers until this very day our guilt has been great. Because of our iniquities we, along with our kings and ¹  priests, have been delivered over by the local kings ²  to sword, captivity, plunder, and embarrassment – right up to the present time.

Because of this, the Lord said, ¹  “You must repent of such words and thoughts! If you do, I will restore you to the privilege of serving me. ²  If you say what is worthwhile instead of what is worthless, I will again allow you to be my spokesman. ³  They must become as you have been.
