On the first day ¹  of the week, when we met ²  to break bread, Paul began to speak ³  to the people, and because he intended ⁴  to leave the next day, he extended ⁵  his message until midnight.

A young man named Eutychus, who was sitting in the window, ¹  was sinking ²  into a deep sleep while Paul continued to speak ³  for a long time. Fast asleep, ⁴  he fell down from the third story and was picked up dead.

(To my disgrace ¹  I must say that we were too weak for that!) ²  But whatever anyone else dares to boast about ³  (I am speaking foolishly), I also dare to boast about the same thing. ⁴ 

They answered him, “Why does my lord say such things? ¹  Far be it from your servants to do such a thing! ² 

Gideon ¹  said to him, “If you really are pleased with me, ²  then give me ³  a sign as proof that it is really you speaking with me.

God says this to the evildoer: ¹  “How can you declare my commands, and talk about my covenant? ² 

As he spoke with me, I fell into a trance with my face to the ground. But he touched me and stood me upright. ¹ 

The angelic messenger ¹  who had been speaking with me then returned and woke me, as a person is wakened from sleep.

After this the angelic messenger ¹  who had been speaking to me went out and said, “Look, see what is leaving.”

After the demon was cast out, the man who had been mute spoke. The crowds were amazed and said, “Never has anything like this been seen in Israel!”

Then they brought to him a demon-possessed man who was blind and mute. Jesus ¹  healed him so that he could speak and see. ² 

When Jesus learned of this, ¹  he said, “You who have such little faith! ²  Why are you arguing ³  among yourselves about having no bread?

While he was still speaking, people came from the synagogue ruler’s ¹  house saying, “Your daughter has died. Why trouble the teacher any longer?”

At that moment, ¹  she came up to them ²  and began to give thanks to God and to speak ³  about the child ⁴  to all who were waiting for the redemption of Jerusalem. ⁵ 

While he was still speaking, someone from the synagogue ruler’s ¹  house came and said, “Your daughter is dead; do not trouble the teacher any longer.”

This is the one about whom I said, ‘After me comes a man who is greater than I am, ¹  because he existed before me.’

While Peter and John ¹  were speaking to the people, the priests and the commander ²  of the temple guard ³  and the Sadducees ⁴  came up ⁵  to them,

Then as I began to speak, the Holy Spirit fell on ¹  them just as he did ²  on us at the beginning. ³ 

(All the Athenians and the foreigners who lived there used to spend their time ¹  in nothing else than telling ²  or listening to something new.) ³ 

and when Paul placed ¹  his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came ²  upon them, and they began to speak ³  in tongues and to prophesy. ⁴
