But the centurion, ¹  wanting to save Paul’s life, ²  prevented them from carrying out their plan. He ordered those who could swim to jump overboard first and get to land, ³ 

Don’t worry ¹  about your belongings, for the best of all the land of Egypt will be yours.’”

But all the young women ¹  who have not had sexual intercourse with a man ²  will be yours. ³ 

Only in two things spare me, ¹  O God, ²  and then I will not hide from your face:

if he retains it for himself and does not let it go, and holds it fast in his mouth, ¹ 

They detest me and maintain their distance; ¹  they do not hesitate to spit in my face.

Deliver me ¹  from the sword! Save ²  my life ³  from the claws ⁴  of the wild dogs!

The one who spares his rod ¹  hates ²  his child, ³  but the one who loves his child ⁴  is diligent ⁵  in disciplining ⁶  him.

Discipline your child, for ¹  there is hope, but do not set your heart ²  on causing his death. ³ 

Do not love sleep, ¹  lest you become impoverished; open your eyes so that ²  you might be satisfied with food. ³ 

All day long he craves greedily, ¹  but the righteous gives and does not hold back. ² 

Men bow down to them in homage, they lie flat on the ground in worship. ¹  Don’t spare them! ² 

I know that after I am gone ¹  fierce wolves ²  will come in among you, not sparing the flock.

Azariah, the head priest from the family of Zadok, said to him, “Since the contributions began arriving in the Lord’s temple, we have had plenty to eat and have a large quantity left over. For the Lord has blessed his people, and this large amount remains.”

The Lord said to me, “What do you see, Amos?” I said, “Tin.” The sovereign One then said, “Look, I am about to place tin among my people Israel. I will no longer overlook their sin. ¹ 

So tell them ¹  you are my sister ²  so that it may go well ³  for me because of you and my life will be spared ⁴  on account of you.”

But you must bring ¹  your youngest brother to me. Then ²  your words will be verified ³  and you will not die.” They did as he said. ⁴ 

Then Pharaoh commanded all his people, “All sons ¹  that are born you must throw ²  into the river, but all daughters you may let live.” ³ 

So the people took their dough before the yeast was added, ¹  with their kneading troughs bound up in their clothing on their shoulders.

Do this: ¹  exterminate every male, as well as every woman who has had sexual relations with a male. ²  But spare the lives of any virgins.” So they did as instructed. ³
