At that time Hanani the prophet ¹  visited King Asa of Judah and said to him: “Because you relied on the king of Syria and did not rely on the Lord your God, the army of the king of Syria has escaped from your hand.

Do not turn to the spirits of the dead and do not seek familiar spirits ¹  to become unclean by them. I am the Lord your God.

But they did not pay attention and were as stubborn as their ancestors, ¹  who had not trusted the Lord their God.

Certainly none who rely on you will be humiliated. Those who deal in treachery will be thwarted ¹  and humiliated.

Guide me into your truth ¹  and teach me. For you are the God who delivers me; on you I rely all day long.

Rely ¹  on the Lord! Obey his commands! ²  Then he will permit you ³  to possess the land; you will see the demise of evil men. ⁴ 

But I ¹  am like a flourishing ²  olive tree in the house of God; I continually ³  trust in God’s loyal love.

I will continually ¹  thank you when ²  you execute judgment; ³  I will rely ⁴  on you, ⁵  for your loyal followers know you are good. ⁶ 

In God – I boast in his promise ¹  – in God I trust, I am not afraid. What can mere men ²  do to me? ³ 

Trust in him at all times, you people! Pour out your hearts before him! ¹  God is our shelter! (Selah)

Do not trust in what you can gain by oppression! ¹  Do not put false confidence in what you can gain by robbery! ²  If wealth increases, do not become attached to it! ³ 

unless they became my subjects ¹  and made peace with me; let them make peace with me. ² 

Indeed, they live in the holy city; ¹  they trust in ²  the God of Israel, whose name is the Lord who commands armies.

Do not rely on a friend; do not trust a companion! Don’t even share secrets with the one who lies in your arms! ¹ 

He ¹  said, “The time is fulfilled and the kingdom of God ²  is near. Repent and believe the gospel!”

and said, “If ¹  you are the Christ, ²  tell us.” But he said to them, “If ³  I tell you, you will not ⁴  believe,

So ¹  he said to them, “You ²  foolish people ³  – how slow of heart ⁴  to believe ⁵  all that the prophets have spoken!

But to all who have received him – those who believe in his name ¹  – he has given the right to become God’s children

Jesus said to him, ¹  “Because I told you that I saw you under the fig tree, do you believe? You will see greater things than these.” ² 

If I have told you people ¹  about earthly things and you don’t believe, how will you believe if I tell you about heavenly things? ²
