I will give them the desire to acknowledge that I ¹  am the Lord. I will be their God and they will be my people. For they will wholeheartedly ²  return to me.’

You have destroyed ¹  my people by failing to acknowledge me! Because you refuse to acknowledge me, ²  I will reject you as my priests. Because you reject ³  the law of your God, I will reject ⁴  your descendants.

Their wicked deeds do not allow them to return to their God; because a spirit of idolatry ¹  controls their heart, ²  and they do not acknowledge the Lord.

Put yourselves to the test to see if you are in the faith; examine yourselves! Or do you not recognize regarding yourselves that Jesus Christ is in you – unless, indeed, you fail the test! ¹ 

I am writing to you, fathers, that ¹  you have known him who has been from the beginning. I am writing to you, young people, that ²  you have conquered the evil one. ³ 

We are from God; the person who knows God listens to us, but ¹  whoever is not from God does not listen to us. By this ²  we know the Spirit of truth and the spirit of deceit. ³ 

as well as ¹  to distinguish between the holy and the common, and between the unclean and the clean, ² 

Now if you say to yourselves, ¹  ‘How can we tell that a message is not from the Lord?’ ²  –

Then ¹  all the nations of the earth will recognize that the Lord is the only genuine God. ² 

Which of all these ¹  does not know that the hand of the Lord ²  has done ³  this,

How many are my ¹  iniquities and sins? Show me my transgression and my sin. ² 

People ¹  who had seen him will not see him again, and the place where he was will recognize him no longer.

He causes everyone to stop working, ¹  so that all people ²  may know ³  his work.

for he is too proud to recognize and give up his sin. ¹ 

I have wandered off like a lost sheep. ¹  Come looking for your servant, for I do not forget your commands.

Acknowledge ¹  him in all your ways, ²  and he will make your paths straight. ³ 

You who are far away, listen to what I have done! You who are close by, recognize my strength!”

I will commit myself to you in faithfulness; then ¹  you will acknowledge ²  the Lord.” ³ 

So also you, when you see all these things, know ¹  that he is near, right at the door.

After this he appeared in a different form to two of them while they were on their way to the country.
