He does not allow the wicked to live, ¹  but he gives justice to the poor.

For you deliver oppressed ¹  people, but you bring down those who have a proud look. ² 

Turn toward me and have mercy on me, for I am alone ¹  and oppressed!

But the oppressed will possess the land and enjoy great prosperity. ¹ 

Then he will judge ¹  your people fairly, and your oppressed ones ²  equitably.

For I am oppressed and needy, and my heart beats violently within me. ¹ 

I had faith when I said, “I am severely oppressed.”

The Lord lifts up the oppressed, but knocks ¹  the wicked to the ground.

For the Lord takes delight in his people; he exalts the oppressed by delivering them. ¹ 

The diligent ¹  person ²  will rule, but the slothful ³  will become a slave. ⁴ 

So listen to this, oppressed one, who is drunk, but not from wine!

Therefore, O king, may my advice be pleasing to you. Break away from your sins by doing what is right, and from your iniquities by showing mercy to the poor. Perhaps your prosperity will be prolonged.” ¹ 

The Israelites ¹  turn justice into bitterness; ²  they throw what is fair and right ³  to the ground. ⁴ 

Carry one another’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.

“When a person sins and commits a trespass ¹  against the Lord by deceiving his fellow citizen ²  in regard to something held in trust, or a pledge, or something stolen, or by extorting something from his fellow citizen, ³ 

He lies in ambush in a hidden place, like a lion in a thicket; ¹  he lies in ambush, waiting to catch ²  the oppressed; he catches the oppressed ³  by pulling in his net. ⁴ 

“Because of the violence done to the oppressed, ¹  because of the painful cries ²  of the needy, I will spring into action,” ³  says the Lord. “I will provide the safety they so desperately desire.” ⁴ 

With all my strength I will say, ¹  “O Lord, who can compare to you? You rescue ²  the oppressed from those who try to overpower them; ³  the oppressed and needy from those who try to rob them.” ⁴ 

If you see the extortion ¹  of the poor, or the perversion ²  of justice and fairness in the government, ³  do not be astonished by the matter. For the high official is watched by a higher official, ⁴  and there are higher ones over them! ⁵ 

to keep the poor from getting fair treatment, and to deprive ¹  the oppressed among my people of justice, so they can steal what widows own, and loot what belongs to orphans. ²
