So David was no longer willing to bring the ark of the Lord to be with him in the City of David. David left it in the house of Obed-Edom the Gittite.

Now, O Lord my God, you have made your servant king in my father David’s place, even though I am only a young man and am inexperienced. ¹ 

But they did not listen to me or pay any attention to me. They followed the stubborn inclinations of their own wicked hearts. They acted worse and worse instead of better. ¹ 

“‘For the Lord has spoken about Shallum son of Josiah, who succeeded his father as king of Judah but was carried off into exile. He has said, “He will never return to this land. ¹ 

Instead new wine must be poured into new wineskins. ¹ 

so they passed through ¹  Mysia ²  and went down to Troas. ³ 

Although they claimed ¹  to be wise, they became fools

to be renewed in the spirit of your mind,

Do not return evil for evil or insult for insult, but instead bless ¹  others ²  because you were called to inherit a blessing.

You must go instead to my country and to my relatives ¹  to find ²  a wife for my son Isaac.”

Instead, you must be sure to open your hand to him and generously lend ¹  him whatever he needs. ² 

He followed in the footsteps of ¹  the kings of Israel; he also made images of the Baals.

Instead ¹  he finds pleasure in obeying the Lord’s commands; ²  he meditates on ³  his commands ⁴  day and night.

Just as there is futility in many dreams, so also in many words. ¹  Therefore, fear God!

We hoped for good fortune, but nothing good has come of it. We hoped for a time of relief, but instead we experience terror. ¹ 

But he refused. Instead, he went out and threw him in prison until he repaid the debt.

It must not be this way among you! Instead whoever wants to be great among you must be your servant,
