“‘If what is vowed is a kind of animal from which an offering may be presented ¹  to the Lord, anything which he gives to the Lord from this kind of animal ²  will be holy.

I, the servant of my lord ¹  the king, give it all to the king!” Araunah also told the king, “May the Lord your God show you favor!”

He ¹  gives his chosen king magnificent victories; ²  he is faithful ³  to his chosen ruler, ⁴  to David and his descendants ⁵  forever.” ⁶ 

When the Lord gives you relief from your suffering and anxiety, ¹  and from the hard labor which you were made to perform,

If, however, the people of the land shut their eyes ¹  to that man ²  when he gives some of his children to Molech so that they do not put him to death,

You must remember the Lord your God, for he is the one who gives ability to get wealth; if you do this he will confirm his covenant that he made by oath to your ancestors, ¹  even as he has to this day.

If the Lord your God enlarges your borders as he promised your ancestors ¹  and gives you all the land he pledged to them, ² 

Jephthah said to the leaders of Gilead, “All right! ¹  If you take me back to fight with the Ammonites and the Lord gives them to me, ²  I will be your leader.” ³ 

But we can’t allow our daughters to marry them, ¹  for the Israelites took an oath, saying, ‘Whoever gives a woman to a Benjaminite will be destroyed!’ ² 

And whoever gives only a cup of cold water to one of these little ones in the name of a disciple, I tell you the truth, ¹  he will never lose his reward.”

“Peace I leave with you; ¹  my peace I give to you; I do not give it ²  to you as the world does. ³  Do not let your hearts be distressed or lacking in courage. ⁴ 

In the same way, you who are younger, ¹  be subject to the elders. And all of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble. ² 

From whose womb does the ice emerge, and the frost from the sky, ¹  who gives birth to it,

The Lord gives ¹  his people strength; ²  the Lord grants his people security. ³ 

The one who deals wisely ¹  in a matter ²  will find success, ³  and blessed ⁴  is the one who trusts in the Lord. ⁵ 

Like tying a stone in a sling, ¹  so is giving honor to a fool.

Feasts ¹  are made ²  for laughter, and wine makes life merry, ³  but money is the answer ⁴  for everything.

“Whoever receives you receives me, and whoever receives me receives the one who sent me. ¹ 

So neither the one who plants counts for anything, ¹  nor the one who waters, but God who causes the growth.

A naive person ¹  believes everything, but the shrewd person discerns his steps. ²
