“I destroyed your crops ¹  with blight and disease. Locusts kept ²  devouring your orchards, ³  vineyards, fig trees, and olive trees. Still you did not come back to me.” The Lord is speaking!

The sovereign Lord showed me this: I saw ¹  him making locusts just as the crops planted late ²  were beginning to sprout. (The crops planted late sprout after the royal harvest. ³ )

You will plant crops, but will not harvest them; you will squeeze oil from the olives, ¹  but you will have no oil to rub on your bodies; ²  you will squeeze juice from the grapes, but you will have no wine to drink. ³ 

Then the one who had received the one talent came and said, ‘Sir, I knew that you were a hard man, harvesting where you did not sow, and gathering where you did not scatter seed,

But his master answered, ¹  ‘Evil and lazy slave! So you knew that I harvest where I didn’t sow and gather where I didn’t scatter?

Little by little ¹  I will drive them out before you, until you become fruitful and inherit the land.

“‘The land will give its fruit and you may eat until you are satisfied, ¹  and you may live securely in the land.

and you eat ¹  some of the food of the land, you must offer up a raised offering ²  to the Lord.

“You will take much seed to the field but gather little harvest, because locusts will consume it.

Let the sea and everything in it shout! Let the fields and everything in them celebrate!

if I have eaten its produce without paying, ¹  or caused the death ²  of its owners, ³ 

Let the fields and everything in them celebrate! Then let the trees of the forest shout with joy

He handed the territory of nations over to them, and they took possession of what other peoples had produced, ¹ 

When the hay is removed and new grass appears, and the grass from the hills is gathered in,

Those who make clothes from combed flax will be embarrassed; those who weave will turn pale. ¹ 

For indeed, I am on your side; ¹  I will turn to you, and you will be plowed and planted.

He then ¹  told them a parable: ²  “The land of a certain rich man produced ³  an abundant crop,

“‘On ¹  the fifteenth day of the seventh month, when you gather in the produce of the land, you must celebrate a pilgrim festival of the Lord for seven days. On the first day is a complete rest and on the eighth day is complete rest.

The Lord will greatly multiply your children, ¹  the offspring of your livestock, and the produce of your soil in the land which he ²  promised your ancestors ³  he would give you.

They ¹  will devour the offspring of your livestock and the produce of your soil until you are destroyed. They will not leave you with any grain, new wine, olive oil, calves of your herds, ²  or lambs of your flocks ³  until they have destroyed you.
