Nicodemus replied, ¹  “How can these things be?” ² 

So they asked him, ¹  “How then were you made to see?” ² 

Jesus could see ¹  that they wanted to ask him about these things, ²  so ³  he said to them, “Are you asking ⁴  each other about this – that I said, ‘In a little while you ⁵  will not see me; again after a little while, you ⁶  will see me’?

While this was happening, ¹  the high priest questioned Jesus about his disciples and about his teaching. ² 

They said to one another, ¹  “Who did this?” ²  They investigated the matter thoroughly ³  and concluded ⁴  that Gideon son of Joash had done it.

Daniel replied to the king, “The mystery that the king is asking about is such that no wise men, astrologers, magicians, or diviners can possibly disclose it to the king.

by asking both the priests of the temple ¹  of the Lord who rules over all and the prophets, “Should we weep in the fifth month, ²  fasting as we have done over the years?”

So the Samaritan woman said to him, “How can you – a Jew ¹  – ask me, a Samaritan woman, for water ²  to drink?” (For Jews use nothing in common ³  with Samaritans.) ⁴ 

Should he be informed that I want ¹  to speak? If a man speaks, surely he would be swallowed up!

May his children ¹  roam around begging, asking for handouts as they leave their ruined home! ² 

Whoever corrects ¹  a mocker is asking for ²  insult; ³  whoever reproves a wicked person receives ⁴  abuse.

Like cutting off the feet or drinking violence, ¹  so is sending ²  a message by the hand of a fool. ³ 

For everyone who asks ¹  receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.

The disciples asked him, ¹  “Why then do the experts in the law ²  say that Elijah must come first?”

At that time the disciples came to Jesus saying, “Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?”

But the chief priests and the elders persuaded the crowds to ask for Barabbas and to have Jesus killed.

When he was alone, those around him with the twelve asked him about the parables.

Jesus ¹  asked him, “What is your name?” And he said, “My name is Legion, ²  for we are many.”

His disciples said to him, “You see the crowd pressing against you and you say, ‘Who touched me?’”

Now ¹  when Jesus ²  had left the crowd and entered the house, his disciples asked him about the parable.
