When his son Isaac was eight days old, ¹  Abraham circumcised him just as God had commanded him to do. ² 

Abraham took some sheep and cattle and gave them to Abimelech. The two of them made a treaty. ¹ 

“Be careful ¹  never to take my son back there!” Abraham told him. ² 

When Abraham’s servant heard their words, he bowed down to the ground before the Lord.

God heard their groaning, ¹  God remembered ²  his covenant with Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob,

“You, my servant Israel, Jacob whom I have chosen, offspring of Abraham my friend, ¹ 

Abraham was the father ¹  of Isaac, Isaac the father of Jacob, Jacob the father of Judah and his brothers,

Then ¹  the rich man ²  said, ‘No, father Abraham, but if someone from the dead ³  goes to them, they will repent.’

Your father Abraham was overjoyed ¹  to see my day, and he saw it and was glad.” ² 

Then the Judeans ¹  replied, ²  “You are not yet fifty years old! ³  Have ⁴  you seen Abraham?”

For what does the scripture say? “Abraham believed God, and it was credited ¹  to him as righteousness.” ² 

Are they Hebrews? So am I. Are they Israelites? So am I. Are they descendants of Abraham? So am I.

Just as Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness, ¹ 

For it is written that Abraham had two sons, one by the ¹  slave woman and the other by the free woman.

Now when God made his promise to Abraham, since he could swear by no one greater, he swore by himself,

But see how great he must be, if ¹  Abraham the patriarch gave him a tithe ²  of his plunder.

And it could be said that Levi himself, who receives tithes, paid a tithe through Abraham.

Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered Isaac his son on the altar?

nor are all the children Abraham’s true descendants; rather “through Isaac will your descendants be counted.” ¹ 

But Sarah noticed ¹  the son of Hagar the Egyptian – the son whom Hagar had borne to Abraham – mocking. ²
