The Lord roars from Zion; from Jerusalem ¹  his voice bellows out. ²  The heavens ³  and the earth shake. But the Lord is a refuge for his people; he is a stronghold for the citizens ⁴  of Israel.

One deep stream calls out to another ¹  at the sound of your waterfalls; ²  all your billows and waves overwhelm me. ³ 

to the one who rides through the sky from ancient times! ¹  Look! He thunders loudly. ² 

He causes the clouds to arise from the end of the earth, makes lightning bolts accompany the rain, and brings the wind out of his storehouses.

The Lord thundered ¹  from the sky; the sovereign One ²  shouted loudly. ³ 

The pillars ¹  of the heavens tremble and are amazed at his rebuke. ² 

God thunders with his voice in marvelous ways; ¹  he does great things beyond our understanding. ² 

He loads the clouds with moisture; ¹  he scatters his lightning through the clouds.

From heaven you announced what their punishment would be. ¹  The earth ²  was afraid and silent

The living beings moved backward and forward as quickly as flashes of lightning. ¹ 

¹ There is a loud noise on the mountains – it sounds like a large army! ²  There is great commotion among the kingdoms ³  – nations are being assembled! The Lord who commands armies is mustering forces for battle.

Its soldiers are armed with bows and spears. They are cruel and show no mercy. They sound like the roaring sea as they ride forth on their horses. Lined up in formation like men going into battle to attack you, Daughter Zion.’” ¹ 

When his voice thunders, ¹  the heavenly ocean roars. He makes the clouds rise from the far-off horizons. ²  He makes the lightning flash out in the midst of the rain. He unleashes the wind from the places where he stores it. ³ 

Fathers will hear the hoofbeats of the enemies’ horses, the clatter of their chariots and the rumbling of their wheels. They will not turn back to save their children because they will be paralyzed with fear. ¹ 

When his voice thunders, the waters in the heavens roar. He makes the clouds rise from the far-off horizons. He makes the lightning flash out in the midst of the rain. He unleashes the wind from the places where he stores it.

When the seven thunders spoke, I was preparing to write, but ¹  just then ²  I heard a voice from heaven say, “Seal up what the seven thunders spoke and do not write it down.”

Under the whole heaven he lets it go, even his lightning to the far corners ¹  of the earth.

Can you send out lightning bolts, and they go? Will they say to you, ‘Here we are’?

To the Lord I cried out, ¹  and he answered me from his holy hill. ²  (Selah)
