There is one glory of the sun, and another glory of the moon and another glory of the stars, for star differs from star in glory.

If you do take ¹  the garment of your neighbor in pledge, you must return it to him by the time the sun goes down, ² 

From east to west ¹  the Lord’s name is deserving of praise.

So I began to despair ¹  about all the fruit of ²  my labor ³  for which I worked so hard ⁴  on earth. ⁵ 

Here is ¹  another misfortune ²  that I have seen on earth, ³  and it weighs ⁴  heavily on people: ⁵ 

Wisdom, like ¹  an inheritance, is a good thing; it benefits those who see the light of day. ² 

This is what I also observed about wisdom on earth, ¹  and it is a great burden ²  to me:

I have seen another ¹  misfortune ²  on the earth: ³  It is an error a ruler makes. ⁴ 

And very early on the first day of the week, at sunrise, they went to the tomb.

A psalm by Asaph. El, God, the Lord ²  speaks, and summons the earth to come from the east and west. ³ 

Let them be ¹  like a snail that melts away as it moves along! ²  Let them be like ³  stillborn babies ⁴  that never see the sun!

I reflected on everything that is accomplished by man ¹  on earth, ²  and I concluded: Everything ³  he has accomplished ⁴  is futile ⁵  – like chasing the wind! ⁶ 

So I loathed ¹  life ²  because what happens ³  on earth ⁴  seems awful to me; for all the benefits of wisdom ⁵  are futile – like chasing the wind.

before the sun and the light ¹  of the moon and the stars grow dark, and the clouds disappear ²  after the rain;

The sunlight will be turned to darkness and the moon to the color of blood, ¹  before the day of the Lord comes – that great and terrible day!

Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father. ¹  The one who has ears had better listen! ² 

And he was transfigured before them. ¹  His ²  face shone like the sun, and his clothes became white as light.

The sun stood still and the moon stood motionless while the nation took vengeance on its enemies. The event is recorded in the Scroll of the Upright One. ¹  The sun stood motionless in the middle of the sky and did not set for about a full day. ² 

He removed from the entrance to the Lord’s temple the statues of horses ¹  that the kings of Judah had placed there in honor of the sun god. (They were kept near the room of Nathan Melech the eunuch, which was situated among the courtyards.) ²  He burned up the chariots devoted to the sun god. ³ 

When the sun began to shine, God sent ¹  a hot ²  east wind. So the sun beat down ³  on Jonah’s head, and he grew faint. So he despaired of life, ⁴  and said, “I would rather die than live!” ⁵
