because ¹  you neglected ²  all my advice, and did not comply ³  with my rebuke,

A fool’s annoyance ¹  is known at once, ²  but the prudent ³  overlooks ⁴  an insult.

The shrewd person ¹  conceals ²  knowledge, but foolish people ³  publicize folly. ⁴ 

A wise son accepts ¹  his father’s discipline, ²  but a scoffer ³  does not listen to rebuke.

Every shrewd ¹  person acts with knowledge, but a fool displays ²  his folly.

A gentle response ¹  turns away anger, but a harsh word ²  stirs up wrath. ³ 

For my yoke is easy to bear, and my load is not hard to carry.”

Watch out! Stay alert! ¹  For you do not know when the time will come.

But Jesus ¹  turned and rebuked them, ² 

Another sharp division took place among the Jewish people ¹  because of these words.

As they grappled with one another, each one stabbed his opponent with his sword and they fell dead together. ¹  So that place is called the Field of Flints; ²  it is in Gibeon.

Certainly ¹  caraway seed is not threshed with a sledge, nor is the wheel of a cart rolled over cumin seed. ²  Certainly caraway seed is beaten with a stick, and cumin seed with a flail.

Job took a shard of broken pottery to scrape ¹  himself ²  with while he was sitting ³  among the ashes. ⁴ 

For ¹  it has been hidden from the eyes of every living creature, and from the birds of the sky it has been concealed.

Whoever strikes it with a sword ¹  will have no effect, ²  nor with the spear, arrow, or dart.

If a person ¹  does not repent, God sharpens his sword ²  and prepares to shoot his bow. ³ 

I am like a man who cannot hear and is incapable of arguing his defense. ¹ 

before the vindictive enemy who ridicules and insults me. ¹ 

May they praise God while they hold a two-edged sword in their hand, ¹ 

For the Lord disciplines ¹  those he loves, just as a father ²  disciplines ³  the son in whom he delights.
