The five Amorite kings ¹  ran away and hid in the cave at Makkedah.

So they commanded the Benjaminites, “Go hide in the vineyards,

A gift given ¹  in secret subdues ²  anger, and a bribe given secretly ³  subdues ⁴  strong wrath. ⁵ 

Indeed, she lies in wait like a robber, ¹  and increases the unfaithful ²  among men. ³ 

The north wind ¹  brings forth rain, and a gossiping tongue ²  brings forth ³  an angry look. ⁴ 

plotting against ¹  him, to catch ²  him in something he might say.

For the things they do ¹  in secret are shameful even to mention.
