You will desecrate your silver-plated idols ¹  and your gold-plated images. ²  You will throw them away as if they were a menstrual rag, saying to them, “Get out!”

The nations run away when they hear a loud noise; ¹  the nations scatter when you spring into action! ² 

I will put your flesh on the mountains, and fill the valleys with your maggot-infested carcass. ¹ 

A time to throw away stones, and a time to gather stones; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;

Everyone who falls on this stone will be broken to pieces, ¹  and the one on whom it falls will be crushed.” ² 

Terrors ¹  frighten him on all sides and dog ²  his every step.

Scatter abroad ¹  the abundance ²  of your anger. Look at every proud man ³  and bring him low;

Now those who had been forced to scatter went around proclaiming the good news of the word.

They will never follow a stranger, ¹  but will run away from him, because they do not recognize ²  the stranger’s voice.” ³ 

I, the Lord, tell ¹  you not to be afraid, you descendants of Jacob, my servant, for I am with you. Though I completely destroy all the nations where I scatter you, I will not completely destroy you. I will indeed discipline you but only in due measure. I will not allow you to go entirely unpunished.” ²
