I will remove the sorcery ¹  that you practice, ²  and you will no longer have omen readers living among you. ³ 

because he taught them like one who had authority, ¹  not like their experts in the law. ² 

Then ¹  an expert in the law ²  came to him and said, “Teacher, I will follow you wherever you go.” ³ 

The disciples asked him, ¹  “Why then do the experts in the law ²  say that Elijah must come first?”

When ¹  the chief priests and the Pharisees ²  heard his parables, they realized that he was speaking about them.

But the chief priests and the elders persuaded the crowds to ask for Barabbas and to have Jesus killed.

In ¹  the same way even the chief priests – together with the experts in the law ²  and elders ³  – were mocking him: ⁴ 

Now ¹  the Pharisees ²  and some of the experts in the law ³  who came from Jerusalem ⁴  gathered around him.

Then ¹  they asked him, ²  “Why do the experts in the law ³  say that Elijah must come first?”

When they came to the disciples, they saw a large crowd around them and experts in the law ¹  arguing with them.

So too a Levite, when he came up to ¹  the place and saw him, ²  passed by on the other side.

The expert in religious law ¹  said, “The one who showed mercy ²  to him.” So ³  Jesus said to him, “Go and do ⁴  the same.”

Nothing is hidden ¹  that will not be revealed, ²  and nothing is secret that will not be made known.

But ¹  the Pharisees ²  and the experts in the law ³  were complaining, ⁴  “This man welcomes ⁵  sinners and eats with them.”

Now ¹  a certain ruler ²  asked him, “Good teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?” ³ 

and how our chief priests and rulers handed him over ¹  to be condemned to death, and crucified ²  him.

Beware of the dogs, ¹  beware of the evil workers, beware of those who mutilate the flesh! ² 

But I do not allow ¹  a woman to teach or exercise authority ²  over a man. She must remain quiet. ³ 

They will maintain the outward appearance ¹  of religion but will have repudiated its power. So avoid people like these. ² 

Now in fact all who want to live godly lives in Christ Jesus will be persecuted.
