Whoever obeys his ¹  command will not experience harm, and a wise person ²  knows the proper time ³  and procedure.

But he did not answer her a word. Then ¹  his disciples came and begged him, ²  “Send her away, because she keeps on crying out after us.”

yet because this widow keeps on bothering me, I will give her justice, or in the end she will wear me out ¹  by her unending pleas.’” ² 

And when he is carried to the tombs, and watch is kept ¹  over the funeral mound, ² 

¹ He puts my feet in shackles; he watches closely all my paths.’

by saving their lives from death ¹  and sustaining them during times of famine. ² 

to guard ¹  the paths of the righteous ²  and to protect ³  the way of his pious ones. ⁴ 

The shrewd person ¹  conceals ²  knowledge, but foolish people ³  publicize folly. ⁴ 

Righteousness ¹  guards the one who lives with integrity, ²  but wickedness ³  overthrows the sinner.

A toss of a coin ¹  ends ²  disputes, and settles the issue ³  between strong opponents. ⁴ 

I prayed to the LORD my God, confessing in this way: “O Lord, ¹  great and awesome God who is faithful to his covenant ²  with those who love him and keep his commandments,

And the person who keeps his commandments resides ¹  in God, ²  and God ³  in him. Now by this ⁴  we know that God ⁵  resides in us: by the Spirit he has given us.

May the Lord protect him and save his life! ¹  May he be blessed ²  in the land! Do not turn him over ³  to his enemies! ⁴ 

For everyone who asks ¹  receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks, the door ²  will be opened.

And will not the physically uncircumcised man ¹  who keeps the law judge you who, despite ²  the written code ³  and circumcision, transgress the law?

Everyone who resides ¹  in him does not sin; ²  everyone who sins has neither seen him nor known him.

A song of ascents, ²  by Solomon. If the Lord does not build a house, ³  then those who build it work in vain. If the Lord does not guard a city, ⁴  then the watchman stands guard in vain.

We know that everyone fathered ¹  by God does not sin, but God ²  protects ³  the one he has fathered, and the evil one cannot touch him.

(Look! I will come like a thief! Blessed is the one who stays alert and does not lose ¹  his clothes so that he will not have to walk around naked and his shameful condition ²  be seen.) ³ 

“So now, our God – the great, powerful, and awesome God, who keeps covenant fidelity ¹  – do not regard as inconsequential ²  all the hardship that has befallen us – our kings, our leaders, our priests, our prophets, our ancestors, and all your people – from the days of the kings of Assyria until this very day!
