These are the ones who have not defiled themselves ¹  with women, for they are virgins. These are the ones who follow the Lamb wherever he goes. These were redeemed from humanity as firstfruits to God and to the Lamb,

When the sun goes down he will be clean, and afterward he may eat from the holy offerings, because they are his food.

The Lord your God is about to go ¹  ahead of you; he will fight for you, just as you saw him do in Egypt ² 

Suddenly he went ¹  after her like an ox that goes to the slaughter, like a stag prancing into a trapper’s snare ² 

He said to them, “Are you so foolish? Don’t you understand that whatever goes into a person from outside cannot defile him?

Deliverance goes ¹  before him, and prepares ²  a pathway for him. ³
