Consequently the one who rejects this is not rejecting human authority ¹  but God, who gives his Holy Spirit to you.

But if anyone is deficient in wisdom, he should ask God, who gives to all generously and without reprimand, and it will be given to him.

You have the right to take what Chemosh your god gives you, but we will take the land of all whom the Lord our God has driven out before us. ¹ 

See the one who is pregnant with wickedness, who conceives destructive plans, and gives birth to harmful lies – ¹ 

He counts the number of the stars; he names all of them.

The one who gives an answer ¹  before he listens ²  – that is his folly and his shame. ³ 

A fool lets fly with all his temper, ¹  but a wise person keeps it back. ² 

If, for example, the trumpet makes an unclear sound, who will get ready for battle?

The one who oppresses the poor to increase his own gain and the one who gives to the rich ¹  – both end up only in poverty.

People ¹  do not light a lamp and put it under a basket ²  but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all in the house.

I charge you ¹  before God who gives life to all things and Christ Jesus who made his good confession ²  before Pontius Pilate,

You are awe-inspiring, O God, as you emerge from your holy temple! ¹  It is the God of Israel ²  who gives the people power and strength. God deserves praise! ³ 

They do not say to themselves, ¹  “Let us revere the Lord our God. It is he who gives us the autumn rains and the spring rains at the proper time. It is he who assures us of the regular weeks of harvest.” ² 

I summon ¹  my servant, but he does not respond, even though I implore ²  him with my own mouth.

But it is a spirit in people, the breath ¹  of the Almighty, that makes them understand.

A generous person ¹  will be blessed, ²  for he gives some of his food ³  to the poor.

Like a muddied ¹  spring and a polluted ²  well, so is a righteous person who gives way ³  before the wicked.

who made us adequate ¹  to be servants of a new covenant ²  not based on the letter but on the Spirit, for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.

For to the one who pleases him, ¹  God gives wisdom, knowledge, and joy, but to the sinner, he gives the task of amassing ²  wealth ³  – only to give ⁴  it ⁵  to the one who pleases God. This ⁶  task of the wicked ⁷  is futile – like chasing the wind!

The one who observes the day does it for the Lord. The ¹  one who eats, eats for the Lord because he gives thanks to God, and the one who abstains from eating abstains for the Lord, and he gives thanks to God.
