my father fought for you; he risked his life ¹  and delivered you from Midian’s power. ² 

Exercise appropriate caution so that there is no negligence in this matter. Why should danger increase to the point that kings sustain damage?”

You will lie down with ¹  no one to make you afraid, and many will seek your favor. ² 

Why ¹  do I put myself in peril, ²  and take my life in my hands?

She is harsh ¹  with her young, as if they were not hers; she is unconcerned about the uselessness of her labor.

Protect me ¹  and deliver me! Please do not let me be humiliated, for I have taken shelter in you!

A horse disappoints those who trust in it for victory; ¹  despite its great strength, it cannot deliver.

May their path be ¹  dark and slippery, as the Lord’s angel chases them!

Day and night they walk around on its walls, ¹  while wickedness and destruction ²  are within it.

They ¹  reached up to the sky, then dropped into the depths. The sailors’ strength ²  left them ³  because the danger was so great. ⁴ 

Deliver by your power ¹  and answer me, so that the ones you love may be safe. ² 

for the Lord will be ¹  the source of your confidence, ²  and he will guard your foot ³  from being caught in a trap. ⁴ 

It is a snare ¹  for a person ²  to rashly cry, ³  “Holy!” and only afterward to consider ⁴  what he has vowed. ⁵ 

At the risk ¹  of our lives ²  we get our food ³  because robbers lurk ⁴  in the countryside. ⁵ 

He sees the sword coming against the land, blows the trumpet, ¹  and warns the people, ² 

And people will settle there, and there will no longer be the threat of divine extermination – Jerusalem will dwell in security.

But if anyone walks around at night, ¹  he stumbles, ²  because the light is not in him.”

Who is weak, and I am not weak? Who is led into sin, ¹  and I do not burn with indignation?

But if it produces thorns and thistles, it is useless and about to be cursed; ¹  its fate is to be burned.

For God wants you ¹  to silence the ignorance of foolish people by doing good.
